US President Barack Obama should have taken the name of Jawaharlal Nehru instead of just referring to him as the country’s first Prime Minister during his speech in Mumbai today,a senior Congress leader said.
The leader, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said Obama “should have referred to Pandit Jawaharal Nehru by name.”
He was referring to Obama’s speech at the Taj Mahal Hotel in Mumbai after paying tributes to victims of the 2008 Mumbai carnage in which he quoted the words of the first prime minister.
While concluding his speech,Obama said: “as your first Prime Minister said the day that the Father of your Nation was taken from you,we shall never allow that torch of freedom to be blown out, however high the wind or stormy the tempest.”
