Mason arrested for murder of Chidambaram kin

Nachal was found murdered with strangle marks on her neck in her residence in Mandaveli on Friday.

Police claimed to have cracked the murder case of Nachal Chockalingam,an employee of the local branch of Bank of America,with the arrest of a mason on Tuesday.

The 26-year-old Nachal Chockalingam,a distant relative of Home Minister P Chidambaram,was found murdered with strangle marks on her neck in her residence in Mandaveli on Friday.

Her face was also covered with a polythene bag.

Police Commissioner J K Tripathy said Nachal was a victim of murder for gain and a mason Marimuthu (27) has been arrested in this connection.

Chidambaram had visited the family of Nachal on Sunday to express his condolence.

Talking to reporters,Tripathy said Marimuthu had been working for sometime for Nachal’s neighbour and therefore was well acquainted about her.

On July 15,he entered Nachal’s house on the pretext of checking some seepage and entered her bedroom and demanded jewels and cash.

When Nachal asked him to get out,he closed her mouth and when she resisted he strangulated her,Tripathy said.

To ensure that she was dead,Marimuthu tied a plastic bag on her face besides tying up her hands,he said,adding,he took away her golden bangles and chain,a mobile phone and Rs 5000 cash.

During interrogation,Marimuthu confessed to the murder,Tripathy said.
