Interlocutors to meet Omar Adullah

The three interlocutors are in Srinagar to seek out various shades of opinion in Jammu and Kashmir.

The three interlocutors appointed by the Central Government to seek out various shades of opinion in Jammu and Kashmir,are scheduled to meet Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and a cross section of people on Monday.

Senior journalist Dileep Padgaonkar,academician Radha Kumar and Central Information Commissioner M M Ansari arrived in Srinagar on Saturday.

The Hurriyat Conference on Sunday decided not to meet the three-member visiting team of interlocutors appointed by the Central Government to take various shades of opinion in Jammu and Kashmir.

Speaking during a news conference,Hurriyat Conference Chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq,termed the setting up of this committee as “a step of lingering the Kashmir issue,” but said Hurriyat Conference was not against the dialogue process.

The interlocutors met journalists in the city and visited the central jail in Srinagar and spoke to the inmates.

Interlocutors meet Shabir Shah’s ailing mother

The interlocutors also met the ailing mother of jailed separatist leader Shabir Ahmad Shah at his residence here.

Dileep Padgaonkar,the head of the panel,told reporters that the visit was a courtesy call as Shah was known to him since long.

During the meeting,Shah’s wife Dr Bilqees referred to the “frequent” arrest of her husband by the state authorities.

“I explained to them how he has been booked under Public Safety Act eight times in the past three years. I also gave them a copy of the conditional release order issued by the government for Shah’s release,” she said.

Bilqees said the interlocutors told her that they wanted to meet Shah at his residence and promised they would take up the matter with the concerned authorities.

Abdullah to review security measures

Omar Abdullah will review security measures with the Unified Headquarters in Srinagar on Monday.

According to a television report,the meeting will focus on specific counter-strategies and measures to prevent terrorist attacks in populated areas.

Intelligence reports have indicated the possibility of increased in violence in Jammu and Kashmir ahead of President Obama’s visit.

The Army has tightened the three-tier security grid.

The Unified Headquarters meeting comes on the sidelines of a Core Group meeting that took place on Saturday.

15 Corps Commander Lt. Gen. NC Marwah chaired the meeting.
