Hardline Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani on Thursday warned of “dire consequences” if Parliament attack convict Mohammad Afzal Guru was hanged.
It will unleash a “storm”,Geelani said in a statement.
The Hurriyat hawk’s statement comes a day after Union Home Ministry is understood to have recommended that Guru’s mercy petition be rejected and he be hanged.
Guru,a resident of north Kashmir’s volatile Sopore town,had sent a mercy petition to President Pratibha Patil after he was sentenced to death for his role in the 2001 Parliament attack.
