Gas tragedy: panel for curative petn against 1996 SC verdict

The five-member committee constituted by MP govt recommended filing of a curative petition in the SC against the 1996 Bhopal Gas verdict.

The five-member committee constituted by Madhya Pradesh government after the recent judgement on the Bhopal Gas Tragedy,on Thursday recommended filing of a curative petition in the Supreme Court against the 1996 judgement delivered by then Chief Justice A M Ahmedi.

“We have submitted our report and recommended to file a curative petition in Supreme Court against Justice Ahmedi’s decision,” Addition Solicitor General Vivek Tankha said.

The committee also advised the state government and the CBI to file an appeal against the CJM court order delivered on June 7 this month after 26 years of the tragedy that occurred on intervening nights of December 2-3,1984,he said.

It further recommended that the Centre should renew its efforts for extradition of then Union Carbide Corporation Chairman Warren Anderson to face trial in the case,Tankha said.
