Cash-for-vote: Amar Singh moves Delhi HC seeking bail

Court issues notice to city police; Court seeks Singh's medical report from AIIMS by Oct 12.

Rajya Sabha MP Amar Singh,arrested for his alleged role in the 2008 cash-for-vote scam,today approached the Delhi High Court for bail after which the court asked Delhi Police to respond within three days.

Issuing a notice to the police,Justice Ajit Bharihoke sought its status report on Singh’s case within three days while slating his bail plea for hearing on October 12.

The court also asked AIIMS,where Singh is now under treatment of his kidney-related ailments,to submit its latest report on Singh’s health by October 12.

“Despite his (Singh’s) fairly grave medical conditions,the trial court denied him bail,” senior counsel Dinesh Mathur,appearing for Singh,told the court and pleaded to it to hear his interim bail plea on Wednesday.

Justice Bharihoke,however,refused to oblige the counsel and directed All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) to file a fresh medical report on Singh’s medical condition by October 12.

Singh moved the high court after a city court had on September 28 rejected both his interim and regular bail pleas saying his role was “major” in the entire episode aimed at “disgracing” parliamentary democracy.
