Citing World Inequality Lab’s latest working paper on caste-based income disparities, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav Monday renewed calls for a nationwide caste census — a development that comes as Opposition pressure mounts on the Centre to deliver on the contentious issue.

In a post on X, Yadav quoted a World Inequality Lab paper. The paper showed that general castes had 88.4 percent of India’s total national income in 2022 while OBC and Scheduled Castes had only 9 and 2.6 percent, respectively.

It also said that there were no billionaires among India’s Scheduled Tribes.
