Sitting Chhindwara MP Nakul Nath on Monday announced that he would be the candidate from the constituency he represents even as the Congress high command is yet to name candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Nakul made the announcement during a ‘Karyakarta Abhaar Sammelan’ in Chhindwara. His father Kamal Nath was in attendance.

“As you know the Lok Sabha elections will take place in the next 2 months… I will make it clear Kamal Nath will not fight, I will fight. But there will be full support and guidance of Kamal Nath,” Nakul said.

Nakul became Chhindwara MP in 2019, the sole seat the Congress managed to retain while it was swept away in the remaining 28 seats. Nakul managed to win the seat by a margin of 37,536 votes.

Chhindwara has remained firmly in his family’s grasp since his father Kamal Nath became an MP in 1980 and transformed this tribal- dominated seat ushering in development. His father Kamal Nath lost from Chhindwara once in a byelection to BJP candidate Sunder Lal Patwa in 1997 but regained the seat a year later.

“You have supported the Kamal Nath family for 42 years… I have full hope that you will give the same love, same trust and blessings… in the coming Lok Sabha elections,” he said.

Former Chief Minister Nath and his MP son Nakul Nath are on a four-day visit to Chhindwara.
