(X/@narendrmodi)PM Modi In J&K, International Yoga Day Celebrations Live: Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the International Yoga Day celebration from Srinagar today, asking people to make it a part of their daily routine. The event was initially scheduled to be held on the lawns of the Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre on the banks of the Dal Lake but had to be shifted indoors due to incessant rain.
What did the Prime Minister say? Addressing a gathering, PM Modi said that the world sees yoga as a powerful agent for global good as it helps people live in the present without carrying the baggage of the past. “When we are at peace within, we can also make a positive impact on the world… Yoga is making new ways of positive change in the society,” he added.
What is the significance of Modi’s two-day visit? Assembly elections are due in J&K this year and PM Modi’s trip assumes significance in this backdrop. It has not had an Assembly since 2018. In June of that year, Governor’s Rule was imposed after the BJP ended its alliance with the Mehbooba Mufti-led People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and brought down the ruling coalition.
On the occasion of International Yoga Day, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami performed yoga with local people, security personnel and tourists at Parvati Sarovar in Adi Kailash in the district of Pithoragarh, Uttarakhand on Friday.
He expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for popularising yoga in the world. Meanwhile, he also offered prayers at Parvati Kund in Adi Kailash. ANI

The US Embassy and the Israeli Embassy shared a video each to mark the day.
The Israeli Embassy video, featured envoy Naor Gilon and some of its staff, as they shared their thoughts on yoga and its benefits.

The event was supposed to begin at 6.30 am but was delayed followin heavy rainfall. It was moved indoors.
Modi addressed the people after the rain stopped and lauded their determination to stay back even in adverse weather.
"Our daughters used their yoga mats to protect themselves from rain but they did not leave. It is heartening to see," he said.

Thousands of yoga enthusiasts from across the world rolled out their yoga mats as they joined day-long sessions of the ancient Indian practice to commemorate the 10th International Day of Yoga on Friday.
The Consulate General of India in New York along with the Times Square Alliance hosted special yoga sessions at Times Square.
Recognising its universal appeal, in December 2014, the UN proclaimed June 21 as the International Day of Yoga. The draft UN General Assembly resolution establishing the International Day of Yoga was proposed by India and endorsed by a record 175 member states.
The prime minister said many people consider yoga as a spiritual journey aimed at finding God which often makes them give up on meditation.
"When people talk about yoga, most of them think it is a spiritual journey as if it is to find Allah, Ishwar or God... Leave aside the spiritual journey, for now, you can focus on personal development and yoga is part of that.
"If you approach it that way, I am sure you will get a lot of benefits. Personal development leads to the benefit of the society which in turn leads to the benefit of humankind," he said.
The prime minister said yoga, once made a part of daily life, gives uninterrupted benefits for a long time.
The 10th International Yoga Day was celebrated across Bihar on Friday with Governor Rajendra V Arlekar, Deputy Chief Ministers and other state ministers attending the main events in the state capital.
In a post on X, Raj Bhavan (Bihar), said, "The governor, officials and employees of the governor's secretariat practised yoga in the yoga camp organised at Raj Bhavan on the occasion of the 10th International Yoga Day on Friday... '.
Deputy Chief Ministers Samrat Chaudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha and several other ministers and senior bureaucrats participated in a yoga session at an event held at the Patliputra Sports complex to mark the occasion.
The international community observes June 21 as International Yoga Day. A theme for this day is announced every year — this year’s theme is “Yoga for Self and Society”.
Last year, the theme was “Yoga for Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam — One Earth One Family”, and Prime Minister Modi led the celebrations at the North Lawn of the UN Headquarters in New York City.
The first Yoga Day celebrations held in 2015 at Raj Path in New Delhi. Modi, along with other dignitaries, created two Guinness World Records — for being the world’s largest yoga session (35,985 people), and for having the largest number of participating nationalities (84).
"Today, I was so happy to see so many diplomats, ambassadors, and colleagues from the foreign ministry, join us at the Yoga session." He emphasised that it has been an inspiration to develop Yoga enthusiasm and awareness across the world.
"We have come a long way in the last 10 years. We can see how much wellness and happiness Yoga has brought to the world..." Jaishankar said at an event organised in Delhi.
Highlighting how Yoga has been helping in building international relations, the minister said, "It has been a great bonding point for different cultures, because it actually becomes universal and I find it often when I encounter people from other countries, just like the PM said this is often a talking point, it is something that people share."
This year's theme, "Yoga for Self and Society," emphasises yoga's vital role in fostering both individual well-being and societal harmony.

On the occasion of International Day of Yoga, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has said his government will establish 51 ‘Yoga Studios' across the state to promote the ancient practice which “benefited people immensely” during COVID.
The CM was at Nadabet in Banaskantha district near the India-Pakistan border to take part in the state-level event to mark the 10th International Day of Yoga.
Several state ministers and Assembly Speaker Shankar Chaudhary attended the event at Nadabet. This is the first time Yoga Day is being celebrated at Nadabet, said an official release.

Union Ministers Pralhad Joshi and BL Verma performed yoga at an event in Delhi on the occasion of the 10th International Day of Yoga on Friday.
Indian Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi also joined the celebrations and performed yoga.
Army Chief (Designate) Lt General Upendra Dwivedi and others also warmed up as they participated in Yoga Session at Cariappa Parade Ground, on the occasion of International Day of Yoga.
In Delhi, the Ministry of Ayush has partnered with NDMC (New Delhi Municipal Corporation), ASI (Archaeological Survey of India), and DDA (Delhi Development Authority) to organize mass yoga events.
"The world is looking at yoga as a powerful agent of global good. Yoga helps us live in the present moment without the baggage of the past," the prime minister said.
"When we are peaceful within, we can also make a positive impact on the world...Yoga is making new ways of positive change in the society," he added.

Early morning rainfall disrupted International Yoga Day events in Kashmir.
Moderate to heavy rainfall has been reported from across the Valley, making it difficult to hold open-air yoga events, the officials were quoted as saying to PTI.
Heavy rainfall is going on around Dal Lake where Prime Minister Modi was to lead the main yoga event, they said
"I extend my wishes on the occasion of Yoga Day from the land of Kashmir to people performing yoga all across India and the world," PM Modi said participating in celebrations at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC) on the banks of Dal Lake.
"As we mark 10th International Yoga Day, I urge everyone to make yoga part of their daily lives," he added.
The International Yoga Day 2024 theme is “Yoga for Self and Society.” This subject emphasises the double benefits of yoga practice: enhancing personal well-being and improving society at large. The theme recognises that inner serenity and self-care are the cornerstones of a happy and healthy existence. Yoga gives practitioners the skills to control their emotions, reduce stress, and develop self-awareness.

In December 2017, the media reported the “appointment” of a young woman from Maharashtra’s Satara district as “national advisor to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO)” who spoke “directly with Prime Minister Narendra Modi”.
The reports also claimed Kashmira Sandip Pawar, 29, communicated with National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval via videoconferencing from the Satara District Collector’s office, besides talking to other top PMO bureaucrats.
On Wednesday, Kashmira and her accomplice Ganesh Gaikwad, 32, were arrested by Satara police in connection with a first information report (FIR) registered last year on charges of cheating, forgery and impersonation under relevant Sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
