Training of officials till January 20, a specialised app, three assistance centres with technical support, and legal aid to all stakeholders: these are among the pending tasks that the Uttarakhand government is expediting as it aims to implement the Uniform Civil Code in January, The Indian Express has learnt.

According to the government, these locations will have the necessary tools and facilities for registrars and sub-registrars. The Common Service Centre has been designated as the training partner for this initiative, and will train officials on understanding and implementing UCC procedures.
Additionally, the Information Technology Development Agency has developed a specialised application to facilitate the implementation of the UCC, ensuring its functionality across all regions.

Responding to a question on the training, he said on Saturday that it was underway and the rules will be implemented this month.
To ensure convenience for both officials and citizens, three assistance centres will be established. ITDA will provide technical support, CSC will assist with training, and the Prosecution Department will offer legal aid to all stakeholders through these centres.

The Home Secretary held a meeting on Saturday to review the preparations, attended by District Magistrates, Additional District Magistrates, Chief Development Officers, and Sub-Divisional Magistrates.
A five-member expert panel was formed to frame a report, led by retired judge Ranjana Prakash Desai, and based on this, the Uniform Civil Code Bill, 2024, was passed in the Assembly on February 7, 2024. The Act was notified on March 12, 2024, after assent from the President. Though the committee formed to draw up rules for implementing UCC submitted its report to the government on October 18 and the government planned to have the UCC in place before November 9, the state’s 24th Foundation Day, this could not happen as the training of staff was yet to be completed.
