Indrani Mukerjea to appear in Delhi court on May 23 in INX Media case

Mukerjea is currently also facing trial for the alleged murder of her daughter Sheena Bora in Mumbai.

Last year, she had expressed her wish to become an approver in the case, months after her confessional statement was recorded under section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code before a magistrate.

The CBI gave its no objection to her plea last year, following which the Delhi court had directed for her to be produced via video-conference to determine if her plea, seeking pardon, was made under fear, pressure or under the promise of any favour.

The Delhi court recently issued a production warrant seeking for her to be produced before it.

Special Judge J C Jagdale of a Mumbai special CBI court directed the Superintendent of Byculla jail, where she is lodged, to transfer her custody to the CBI for her to be taken to Delhi on May 23.

In her statement in the alleged corruption case, Indrani had claimed that a deal was struck to swing approval from the Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) in INX Media’s favour between Karti Chidambaram and her, along with her husband and co-accused Peter Mukerjea.
