Trinamool men ‘assault’ teacher

The incident took place at Satkore Adivasi Primary School at Ghoghat in Hooghly. The teacher,Joydeb Santra,has lodged a complaint to Goghat Block Development Officer.

“Soon after I reached school,a group of Trinamool cadres rushed in and started abusing me in front of my students and Anganwadi workers. They ordered me to explain why I was late. I explained to them that I had gone to purchase grocery for midday meal. They later asked me to give it in writing about the expense I have made in the last few months to run the midday meal scheme in the school. I refused and told them that I submit the report in this regard to school authorities and block development officers. The ordeal continued for about an hour and half,” the teacher said.

“I have named some Trinamool cadres in the statement. They told me they have full authority to know everything about the school as they run the country.”

Local Trinamool leader Pradip Roy said it was the teacher who was at fault. “The teacher is late to school every day. He owns a tractor and spends a lot of time to collect contractual labourers in the morning. Some guardians and locals today got into an altercation with him as he had arrived late as usual. Not a single Trinamool cadre was present in the school at the time ,” Roy,president,Goghat Block Trinamool Youth Congress,said.

It is learnt that Goghat BDO Jayanta Mondal has asked the police to probe the allegation.

The incident comes close on the heels of a professor of Bhangar College in Kolkata being allegedly assaulted by a Trinamool leader and former MLA.
