Three-year-old boy Burhan, who was injured on Friday when his father, a former militant, was gunned down by unidentified persons, succumbed to his injuries on Saturday.
Bashir Ahmed Bhat was walking outside his house in Sagipora village near Sopore town when two bike-borne gunmen fired at him. Burhan, who was in Bhat’s lap, also sustained bullet injuries.
While Bhat succumbed to his injuries on the way to the hospital, Burhan was operated at Sher-I-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences late in the night.

“The three-year-old had received multiple injuries in his intestines. We operated upon him but he couldn’t be saved,’’ SKIMS superintendent Dr Farooq Jan told The Indian Express.
Sopore SP Abdul Qayoom said they were investigating the matter. “We have received some clues about the attackers,” he said.
Bhat was laid to rest late in the night on Friday, while Burhan was buried in the afternoon on Saturday in the presence of hundreds of villagers. Bhat is survived by wife and nine-month-old daughter Hurain.
“We want Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed to ensure proper probe into the killing of my son and grandson. If my son did something wrong, why was my grandson punished,” said Bhat’s father Ghulam Ahmad.
He said his son had stepped out of his house to get a mobile recharge done when he was attacked.
“The two gunmen were on a motorcycle. First, they hurled a grenade towards him and later sprayed bullets,’’ he said.
Police said the bike-borne ‘teenagers’ were making rounds in the village from 4 pm.
“When the villagers questioned them, they told them that their bike had run out of petrol. In the evening, Bhat left the house and they attacked him and fled,” said an officer.
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed condemned the killing of the three-year-old and said his heart goes out to the unfortunate mother of the young child.
Meanwhile, Hurriyat (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani has called for a complete shutdown to protest against the killing of the former militant, his son and Hizbul Mujahideen militant Fayaz Ahmad whose body was recovered from Kunzer on Saturday. Terming the killings “mysterious”, he said the killing of the three-year-old had shaken the conscience of every human being.
