A police constable was killed and another injured when suspected militants attacked policemen who were guarding a Sufi shrine at North Kashmir’s Tujjar village. Police said that the unidentified gunmen attacked two police cops at Tujjar village, eight kilometers away from Sopore town. Both the policemen were posted as guards at the shrine of - Sheikh Hamza Makdhoomi. The injured cops were shifted to sub district hospital Sopore where one of the constables succumbed to injuries. The slain constable has been identified as Constable Fayaz Ahmad. Soon after the attack, police and army launched an operation to trace the attackers and senior police officials also rushed to the spot. So far no militant outfit has claimed the responsibility for the attack. After the series of killings of civilians and the attacks on the mobile towers for which Lashkar- e -Islam had claimed responsibility, this is the first attack in Sopore town. This is the second attack on a police post in Jammu and Kashmir this month. On August 6, a group of heavily armed terrorists attacked on Chanj police post in Udhampur, leaving two Special Police Officers injured. The NIA, which is investigating the case, has announced a reward of Rs 10 lakh for any information about two suspects who are still at large in the Udhampur attack case.
