An assistant inspector from the Oshiwara police station has registered a case of theft and forgery after Rs 40,000 was allegedly stolen from his Axis bank account using other banks’ ATM machines. According to the police five more people have registered similar complaints in the past.

According to API Sanjay More, last Wednesday he received an SMS from Axis Bank around 10.30 pm saying that Rs 30,000 was withdrawn from his account from the Federal Bank ATM in Dadar, and again at 11.50 pm,he received another message saying Rs 10,000 was withdrawn from the State Bank ATM at Dharavi.

“On Tuesday,we detained two salesmen from the Mega Mall in Oshiwara where I had shopped last week. The salesmen had swiped the card four times and we suspect they might have copied the CVV number and passed it on to make a duplicate debit card. We are investigating the case to find out whether the salesmen are involved,” said More.

A statement from Axis Bank said,“The issue was brought to our notice on Tuesday and we are providing necessary assistance to the investigative agency.”
