Rly plans website for Tatkaal

The Railways’ website is bogged down by a significant rate of transaction failure.

The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has decided to launch a new website only for Tatkaal hours. The move comes following criticism by public over problems faced by them while making rail reservation under Tatkaal quota.

To be called ‘IRCTC Lite’, the new website will be activated only for a couple of hours from 10 am to noon. The adage ‘Lite’ is because this website will be a no-frills version of the regular website, devoid of ads, banners, information scrolls and host of other features. Only the required functionality of logging in and booking tickets will be activated as a result, the pages will load that much faster and result in less failure.

The Railways’ website is bogged down by a significant rate of transaction failure. Around 20 per cent of all the transactions for e-tickets fail due to a technical reasons. The ‘Lite’ website is designed to load faster. At present, the site books 5 lakh tickets a day but during the two-hour Tatkaal period, the load is heaviest.
