The 16-year-old girl who was “kidnapped” from her home in Faridkot last month and was “rescued” from Goa,on Monday refused to undergo medical examination claiming that she was married to her alleged kidnapper.

“She did not agree for the medical examination at Goa saying that she is married to Nishan Singh (who allegedly abducted her on gunpoint on September 24),” Punjab DGP Sumedh Singh Saini said.

However, the girl and Nishan, who was remanded to transit police custody till October 25 by a local court, are being brought to Faridkot and will be presented before a magistrate on Tuesday,IGP Bathinda (Zone) Nirmal Singh Dhillon, added.

“We will again seek permission for her medical examination from the magistrate. We will also seek her parents’ consent. Also we will take the accused in police remand,” Dhillon said.

He added that the girl will handed over to her parents in front of the magistrate. However,he refused to comment on whether the girl had left on her own or was abducted.

“Whether the girl had gone voluntarily or forcibly,an offence has taken place and action will be taken against all the accused,” he said.

Fifteen out of the total 17 identified accused in the case had been held so far. Police had arrested one Toofan Singh alias Toofani from Jagroan last night,he added. Two accused — Navjot Kaur and Dimpy Samra, mother and maternal uncle of prime suspect Nishan Singh,— are yet to be arrested

Meanwhile,DGP Saini said that both the boy and the girl were staying at a hut on Baga beach in Goa on a monthly rent of Rs 18,000.

“Nishan had rented the hut by producing a fake driving license in the name of Gurpreet Singh of Barnala, while the minor girl had changed her name to Jasmeet Kaur from Sangrur. We are investigating as to who issued them the licenses,” Saini said.

The police chief also hit out at “some elements who completely distorted the facts to get mileage out of it for their own vested interests.” “They publicised minor’s name. This is unethical and insensitive,” he added.

Dhillon, who was leading the investigations, said that a few days ago the Goa Police had impounded a two-wheeler that Nishan was driving for lack of papers. “The two-wheeler belonged to the woman who had rented out the hut to them. On Sunday, when Nishan was apprehended he had Rs 2.50 lakh with him. He and the girl sitting on a bench at Dhuma Poaula beach when the Punjab Police team saw them,” he added.
