Despite strong objections from Congress to his description of Rahul Gandhi as “Shehzada”,Narendra Modi on Saturday continued to address him the same way and attacked him over his statement on Muzaffarnagar riots.
He used the word “Shehzada” for Gandhi repeatedly during his 40-minute address at a public meeting while hitting out at the Congress Vice President.
The BJP’s Prime Ministerial candidate also accused Gandhi of preaching lessons on secularism across the country even when the Minorities Commission slammed his party’s government in Rajasthan for over two dozen communal clashes.
“Those who preach lessons on secularism, their own government in Rajasthan was slammed by the Minorities Commission for 25 big communal clashes and over 80 skirmishes between different communities,” he said.
Modi while addressing his first public meeting in Rajasthan after announcement of assembly poll schedule, said no one including Congress leaders understood what the “Shehzada” had said during his recent visit to Udaipur.
Taking jibes at Rahul for his remarks on Muzaffarnagar riot victims approached by Pak agencies,Modi said the story came from a police officer seeking a Congress ticket from Rajasthan which was told to people all over the country.
“I made a minor research and found that one police officer of Rajasthan cadre went to seek a party ticket for assembly elections and narrated a story to the Shehzada. The Shehzada then went on to tell this tale to the public.
“Congress people have still to understand what their leader wanted to say or communicate to them….neither the man saying and preaching knows what that means nor the writer who wrote…”,Modi said. He accused Gandhi of playing a “family serial in public meetings by telling people about his grandmother and father’s stories”.
Recalling Rajasthan’s 2011 Gopalgarh communal riots that claimed 10 lives,Modi alleged “a leader (Rahul) who came to Rajasthan to seek vote for Gehlot (CM) did not believe in him.The (Rahul) had no trust in his Chief Minister, hence he (Rahul) secretly visited Gopalgarh at night without informing the Chief Minister.
“Shehzada came to Gopalgarh and enjoyed a motorbike ride sitting in the pillion…You (public) know who was riding the bike….whose bike it was…I tell you it was a stolen bike”,he said.
Taking strong exception to Narendra Modi addressing Rahul Gandhi as “Shehzada”,Congress today did some tough talking as it threatened that its workers were capable of stopping such “undignified” language but were restrained due to respect for
laws and the model code of conduct for elections.
The ruling party said its Vice President should be addressed in the same manner in which he addresses people with respect and use of words like “Shehzada” will not be tolerated.
