Pub attack: Muthalik gets bail,cops nab him again

Ram Sena chief Muthalik was granted bail by a local court but armed with a 'body warrant',Mangalore Police arrested him again.

Sri Ram Sena chief Pramod Muthalik was on Wednesday granted bail by a local court but armed with a ‘body warrant’,Mangalore Police arrested him again in connection with Saturday’s attack on a pub.

Davanagere Police,who had secured the custody of Muthalik from Belgaum on the basis of a warrant issued against him in connection with distribution of pamphlets that allegedly had contents to disturb communal harmony,produced him before the Judicial Magistrate First Class,Biraladinni on Wednesday afternoon.

The magistrate granted Muthalik bail but was taken into custody by Mangalore police.

On January 11,Muthalik had allegedly distributed the pamphlets in Davanagere.

However,Muthalik refused to travel to Mangalore saying he was tired after Tuesday night’s journey from Belgaum to Davanagere,creating fresh problems to Mangalore Police and their Davanagere counterparts.

Once a person is handed over to police of another jurisdiction,the police who had him in custody cannot retain him as per rules.

On Saturday,a group of Sri Rama Sene activists barged into a pub,assaulted women and others,an incident which sparked nationwide outrage calling for stringent action against culprits.

The B S Yeddyurappa government has also come in for flak from political opponents.
