PM Narendra Modi woos farmers with DD Kisan channel

On the first anniversary of the NDA government, Prime Minister Narendra Modi exhorted farmers to strive to increase the average foodgrain yield from the current two tonnes per hectare to three tonnes per hectare and called for making the “tehsil” the unit of agricultural planning and development.

Speaking at the launch of DD Kisan — Doordarshan’s 24×7 channel exclusively dedicated to farmers — the PM said if the country has to move forward, villages must progress, and if villages are to progress, then it is essential for agriculture to progress.

The PM said the DD Kisan channel should inform farmers about changes in weather and global markets so that farmers can plan ahead. He also called for re-engaging rural youth in agriculture. He said DD Kisan channel can also highlight the efforts of progressive farmers, so that their innovations can be replicated across the country.
