People on a shopping binge in J&K in preparation for Eid

With the holy month of Ramzan nearing its end,the markets in Srinagar and other major towns of Kashmir valley have been hit by a heavy rush of people out on a shopping binge in preparation for Eid-ul-Fitr.

With the holy month of Ramzan nearing its end,the markets in Srinagar and other major towns of Kashmir valley have been hit by a heavy rush of people out on a shopping binge in preparation for Eid-ul-Fitr.

They have flooded the markets to buy asorted items including the delicacies on offer and colourful garments ahead of Eid,expected tomorrow or the day after depending on the sighting of the moon this evening.

Roadside bazaars have sprung up in most parts of the city to woo the shoppers with mutton,poultry,bakery products,sweets,ready-made garments,shoes,toys,fire-crackers and bangles being the most sought after items.

The heavy rush of people on the streets is leading to frequent traffic jams giving the authorities a tough time clearing the clogged roads.

Jammu and Kashmir Governor N N Vohra,Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Peoples Democratic Party Patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and State Secretary of CPI(M) M Y Tarigami have greeted people on the happy and auspicious occasion.

Separatist organisations including both factions of Hurriyat Conference also extended their warm greetings to the people on the occasion but advised them to avoid unnecessary spending.

Eid or Eid-ul-Fitr,which marks the end of Ramzan,the holy month of fasting,is one of the most important festivals celebrated by Muslims all over the world.
