PDP calls for strengthening institutions to check corruption

PDP demanded that civic elections also be conducted as early as possible.

The opposition PDP on Saturday accused the Jammu and Kashmir government of adopting a casual approach in dealing with corruption in the state and demanded immediate steps for strengthening democratic institutions to check the menace.

“The failure of the state government to make the State Accountability Commission functional reflects its casual approach in dealing corruption,” said PDP spokesperson Sardar Rangil Singh.

He said the claims of government on setting up State Vigilance Commission also remained only on paper.

Despite appointment of the Chief Information Commissioner,government has been adopting delaying tactics to appoint other members to make the State Information Commission functional in the state,Singh alleged.

While civil society in the country has launched a rigorous campaign for the constitution of Lokpal,there is need in the state to strengthen the democratic institutions to keep a check on corruption,the PDP said,claiming lack of transparency and accountability in the administration.

The party expressed satisfaction over the historic turnout in the panchayat elections and demanded that civic elections also be conducted as early as possible,he said.
