Pakistani terrorist Naveed remanded to judicial custody till Wednesday

Naveed was one of the two Lashkar terrorists from Pakistan who had attacked a BSF convoy in Udhampur district early this month.

Lashar-e-Toiba terrorist Mohammad Naveed alias Usman from Pakistan was on Monday remanded to judicial custody till Wednesday by the Chief judicial Magistrate Sunnet Gupta in Jammu.

This followed when NIA produced Naveed before the court for getting his statement recorded under 164 CrPC, pointing out that the accused had been in police custody ever since his apprehension early this month, the CJM deferred the case till August 26, saying that he shall be kept in judicial custody till then before recording his statement.

Naveed was one of the two Lashkar terrorists from Pakistan who had attacked a BSF convoy in the Jammu-Srinagar national highway in Udhampur district early this month. While one terrorist identified as Nomen was killed in a retaliatory fire by paramilitary personnel, Naveed had fled to a nearby village where he held some locals hostage.

However, he was overpowered by the hostages who later handed him over to the police. Later, the case was handed over to NIA for investigations.

NIA had obtained 14-days remand of Naveed from special judge Y P Kotwal which was expiring on Monday. Accordingly, it produced Naveed before Speacial Court for getting his statement recorded. The special judge, in turn, referred the matter to CJM as it was the competent court to record his statement under 164 CrPC.
