Naveed was one of the two Lashkar terrorists from Pakistan who had attacked a BSF convoy in the Jammu-Srinagar national highway in Udhampur district early this month. While one terrorist identified as Nomen was killed in a retaliatory fire by paramilitary personnel, Naveed had fled to a nearby village where he held some locals hostage.
However, he was overpowered by the hostages who later handed him over to the police. Later, the case was handed over to NIA for investigations.
NIA had obtained 14-days remand of Naveed from special judge Y P Kotwal which was expiring on Monday. Accordingly, it produced Naveed before Speacial Court for getting his statement recorded. The special judge, in turn, referred the matter to CJM as it was the competent court to record his statement under 164 CrPC.
