One killed, three critical in Bangalore rowdies gang war

One gangster was killed and three critically injured in Bangalore on Sunday when a peace meeting between two rival rowdy gangs ended up in a violent, armed battle between the gangs. Members of a gang belonging to a notorious gangster Vijayakumar alias Kavala – killed in June this year, and a rival gang lead by Nakara Babu – alleged to be behind the killing of Kavala, were involved in the gang battle at the Jai Bhim Nagar home of a mediator identified as Rajkamal Around 12 associates of Kavala gang and a few men from the Nakara Babu along gang arrived at Jai Bhim Nagar on Sunday afternoon for a mediation arranged by Rajkamal in the first floor of his house.

“While negotiations – probably linked to ending differences over the murder of Kavala was going on – Kavala’s men removed machetes and knives and unleashed an attack on Nakara and his associates. Nakara was killed on the spot while his associates Vishwanath, Lakshman and Heera Lal were critically injured,” a senior police official said. Local residents who heard a commotion alerted the police. However, by the time authorities arrived at the scene members of the Kavala gang had fled in a car.

Three members of the Nakara gang who were found in a pool of blood were admitted to the St. John’s hospital in a critical condition.Police suspect the involvement of the mediator Rajkamal in the attack against Nakara and his associates who were outnumbered and poorly equipped in the gang battle. Police have launched a search to nab Rajkamal. Police said the attack was purely to settle scores over the death of Kavala.

Nakara and Kavala were associates but later split due to differences, Nakara turned into a police informer and his tip off had led to Kavala’s arrest last year. Facing a threat of retaliation Nakara and his men had killed Kavala near the Karnataka-Tamil Nadu border in June this year and were later arrested. They were subsequently enlarged on bail.
