Terming unemployment as a major challenge to the society,Peoples Democratic Party on Friday called for long term and short term measures to tackle it. "While social security system is an accepted principle in most parts of the world,the government must implement it in the state through a well devised scheme," PDP patron Mufti Mohammed Sayeed said in a statement responding to various government announcements about an impending employment policy. The Congress-NC coalition government is due to announce employment policy on the birth anniversary of NC founder Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah on December 5. Mufti said government must rise above petty considerations and aim at the larger goal of harnessing the huge human resource potential. He hoped that the Centre would take a note of this alarming situation and help the state to provide sustainable means to the young generation for a gainful employment. "The people of the state are highly innovative and creative. There is no reason why universalisation of education should rather add value to their genius and skill," he said. Stressing for a system that improves the employability of the youth,Mufti said that job-oriented education was necessary to tackle the problem. On NHPC projects in the state,Mufti said it was sad that NHPC was employing skilled and even unskilled labour from outside the State on most of the projects under execution here,citing lack of skills among the locals.
