The showcase Airport Express Metro found a fan in Minister of State for Defence M M Pallam Raju who today chose the corridor to reach home faster from the Indira Gandhi International Airport rather than going through the maddening road traffic jam.
Raju took the Airport Metro from Terminal 3 of the airport at around 2.30 PM soon after he landed from Hyderabad and reached Shivaji Stadium in the heart of the city in 14 minutes and drove to his home in Lutyen’s Delhi.
“It was a very nice experience and it just takes 20 minutes to reach the city centre from the Airport. It is a wonderful experience,” he said.
Trains on the Airport Metro run at a speed of 105 km per hour bringing down the travel time from the Connaught Place to the Airport to just 18 minutes.
The Minister said the journey was “very convenient” and there were no glitches during his travel from Airport to Shivaji Stadium.
“It is not only the fear of getting stuck in traffic jams that led me to take the Metro but also the convenience it offers to the travellers,” he said.
The Airport Metro, which began its commercial operations on February 23,carries over 7000 passengers everyday and the number is expected to increase once the check-in facility is made available at three stations.
The speed and comfort of the Airport Metro is such that Raju says he has decided to use the corridor very frequently.
“In fact,I got out of the plane at 2.15 pm and I was at my home in central Delhi by 3.00 pm. So,I have decided to use it frequently and I also advice others to use the line,” he said.
