Unleashing development figures in a bid to counter questions raised by PM Narendra Modi during his two rallies in the state ahead of Assembly polls, the Bihar CM said: “People talk of giving money to Bihar. Giving some help here and there will not do. Bihar does not need support of money but of policies. It can progress on its own strength and contribute to the growth of the country”. He said special status alone could bring real development to the state.

Nitish said when he took over as CM, electricity production was negligible and added that he had promised in his 2012 Independence Day speech that he would not seek votes if power did not improve. “Now, district headquarters are getting 22 to 24 hours of electricity supply,” said the chief minister in response to the Prime Minister’s dig on the issue during his question-answer sessions at the two rallies.

He announced 25 per cent hike in the state allowance for aanganwadi sevikas, sahayikas and mid-day meal cooks.
Showcasing development under his rule, Nitish said: “Food grain production has gone up from 45 lakh tonnes in 2005 to 162 tonnes now.” Nitish said bringing in 8.15 lakh girls in Class IX alone, from just 1.7 lakh in 2005, had been a great success. “We have made remarkable achievements in road and health sectors, besides education,” he added.
