Minibus operators threaten strike
JALANDHAR: Punjab Mini Bus Operators Association (PMBOA) has announced that it will keep all the mini buses off the roads in the state around 5,500 if the government decides to hike taxes on mini buses. Association president Jaswinder Singh Grewal announced the decision in the presence of other PMBOA office bearers from across the state. Grewal said they have come to know that the government has proposed to hike the tax on mini buses and if it implements any such proposal,then they will keep all the buses off the road. They claimed that they already pay hefty annual taxes,while increase in mini bus fare has been quite less.
Holy book damaged in Moga
Moga: Four pages of the Guru Granth Sahib were allegedly torn and tampered with in Badaghar on Saturday. Baghapurana police registered a case against unidentified persons for hurting the religious sentiments of Sikh community. No arrests have been made so far.
Make self-defence a subject in school
Chandigarh: The Punjab Women’s Commission will write to the Education Department to introduce self-defence and women rights as an additional subject in schools and colleges,commission chairperson Paramjit Kaur Landran said on Sunday. “The commission will also launch a state-wide awareness campaign to empower women. It will also focus on educating the younger generation about ethical values to build healthy society, she said.
Depts told to act against absentees
Chandigarh: The Punjab government has asked all departments to submit consolidated quarterly reports regarding absentee officers and employees in a week to expedite the removal or dismissal process against them. Taking serious note of the delay in disciplinary action against the absentee officers and employees,the government has asked departments to take expeditious decision regarding their dismissal/removal or to demote them.
Restrain ABVP activists: Cong to BJP
