Metro probe panel expected to submit report tomorrow

The four-member fact finding panel appointed by the DMRC is expected to submit its report on Wednesday.

The four-member panel appointed by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation to go into the causes leading to the accident at a metro site in South Delhi,that killed six people,is expected to submit its report on Wednesday.

The committee started its work a day after the mishap in Zamrudpur in South Delhi and has inspected the site many times to assess what went wrong. Six people were killed and several others injured when an under-construction bridge collapsed on July 12.

The panel consists of Prof A K Nagpal of IIT,Prof B R Bose from Delhi College of Engineering,Steven Lowry and Rajan Kataria from the DMRC.

The panel is due to submit its report tomorrow to DMRC chief E Sreedharan,who is currently in Kerala and will be back by then. However,there was no official word in this regard.

The Delhi Metro had also appointed B P Singh,an ex-General Manager of NALCO,to inquire into last Monday’s mishap when a crane toppled over and booms of two other cranes broke during site-clearing operations at Zamrudpur.

Soon after the incidents,Delhi Metro called for a complete re-check of safety and quality of structures built in Phase-II of the project by independent structural experts.

It decided that all cantilever structures built by Delhi Metro in Phase-II so far will be completely re-checked from safety and quality point of view by independent structural experts.
