Keen to increase its dwindling cash reserves, the MCD is set to earn Rs 936 crore more revenue through award of contracts for toll tax booths along the city borders. The figure is 62.5 per cent more than what the civic body has been getting at present form the toll tax contractor. The civic agency had earlier initiated the process for engaging a new contractor for collection of toll tax as well as upgrading and maintaining 121 toll booths at entry points of the city. "The financial bids were opened and out of the three bidders, one quoted Rs 936 crore. The MCD will get this sum from the contractor over the next three years irrespective of the toll tax collection made by it. We will use this money for developmental work in the city," Leader of MCD House Subhash said on Saturday. The term of the present contract expires in mid-May. The civic body had earlier issued request for proposal from interested developers or toll plaza operators to collect toll tax from specified commercial vehicles and upgrade, operate and maintain 121 toll booths or posts on Delhi borders. The MCD had earlier approved a 17-28 per cent hike in the toll tax rates under different categories.
