The announcement of the winners of 2014/15 International Woolmark Prize – India & Middle East regional final round was a highly anticipated affair with Indian designers Gaurav Jai Gupta, Zubair Kirmani and sister duo Barkha and Sonzal in the fray. But those who have come out tops are UAE-based label, The Emperor 1688, in the menswear category, and Bird on a Wire from Lebanon in the womenswear section.

The collections were judged by a panel comprising Imran Amed, Founder and Editor, The Business of Fashion; Anthony Kendal, Global Communications Director, mytheresa.com; Peter Ackroyd, Global Strategic Advisor, The Woolmark Company; Priyanka Khanna, Senior Fashion Features Editor, Vogue India and fashion designer Rahul Mishra, the 2013/14 International Woolmark Prize winner.

“This year’s prize recognised designers from Lebanon and the UAE, providing a meaningful global platform for their creativity,” said Amed. Both winners gain AU$50,000, plus the opportunity to compete in the prestigious international final. The final for menswear will be held in London in January 2015, and the womenswear final will be held in Beijing in March 2015.
