In wake of the approaching cyclonic storm, Nilofar, the district administration in Kutch (Gujarat) has decided to evacuate 30,000 people living near the shore-line, official sources said.

“We have planned to evacuate 30,000 people living in “kaccha” houses in 123 villages of seven talukas. These villages are those located 0-15 kilometers from the shoreline,” said MS Patel, district collector of Kutch.

The district administration has also asked for additional forces. “Three of the four NDRF teams have already arrived to assist the district administration. The fourth will arrive tomorrow. We have also asked all officials to move into interior areas and assist the local residents in preparing for the storm,” Patel said.

The administration has also requested for two companies of State Reserve Police. Nilofar is expected to make landfall near Naliya on October 31.
