Clearly demonstrating that he would not tow the CPI(M) Politburo decision to stand with party Kerala secretary Pinarayi Vijayan, named an accused in the multi-crore SNC Lavalin scam,Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan on Wednesday was reluctant to term the case against his rival as politically motivated.

Addressing the media after the weekly Cabinet meeting,Achuthanandan said that he was examining the Lavalin case and did not answer in the affirmative when asked whether the case was politically motivated.

Achuthanandan’s stand on the issue was in stark contrast to that of the CPI(M) polit buro which wanted to confront the case politically.

Hardening his “non-comprising approach” towards corruption,Achuthanandan indicated that he would not even share a venue with his tainted bete noir. He said that he was yet to decide on whether he should inaugurate the Kerala yatra,a state-wide political tour, led by Pinarayi. The party state committee last month had decided that Achuthanandan would kick off the tour in Kasargode on February 2.
