JK govt employees’ attempt to gherao civil secretariat foiled

Police personnel prevented employees from marching towards secretariat,which houses CM's office.

Police today foiled an attempt by the Jammu and Kashmir government staff to march towards the civil secretariat by detaining a number of employees demanding an increase in retirement age from 58 to 60.

A large number of police personnel prevented the employees from marching towards the secretariat,which houses the offices of the Chief Minister,his cabinet colleagues and many senior officials.

The confrontation between the employees and the state government is now on the streets for the third straight day with several employees and their leaders having been detained so far.

The Joint Consultative Committee (JCC),body of several employees unions which is spearheading the agitation,had announced a four-day protest programme ending with a march to the Governor’s House and a complete pen-down strike tomorrow.

The employees are also demanding a regularisation policy for the daily-wagers,casual labourers and need-based workers engaged after 1994. Besides,the employees are seeking removal of pay anomaly of clerical cadre and budgetary support for public sector undertakings.
