Janata Parivar. Janata Parivar.

The Janata Parivar parties is set to launch a joint agitation against the string of ordinances promulgated by the Narendra Modi government on land acquisition, FDI insurance and mines and minerals.

JD(U) president Sharad Yadav said the date for starting the agitation will be finalised after the return of Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav to Delhi from Saifai Thursday. JD(U) leader and former Bihar CM Nitish Kumar will also attend the meeting. Yadav said he was in touch with other parties, including the TMC and Left parties, on the matter.

The adoption of the ordinance-route, Yadav said, was reflective of the intention of Prime Minister to impose a one-party rule in the country and added that the ordinances were a result of the promises made by Modi to other countries during his overseas visits.

Yadav said in a country like India, it was incumbent upon the ruling party to take other parties along and rule through a consensus. He added that the government had issued an ordinance barely a day after the Winter session of Parliament came to an end, “which showed that the government wanted to avoid parliamentary discussion”.

The JD(U) has come out strongly against “government’s intention to hand over Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) to Baba Ramdev.” Party secretary-general K C Tyagi said Ramdev’s Patanjali Yogapeeth had made a presentation to Minister for Micro, Small and Medium Industries Kalraj Mishra on November 14, in which it flagged the flaws in the KVIC working and the steps needed for plugging “the gaps” in its working. “By doing so, Ramdev is not only trying to get an access to the 7,050 outlets of the KVIC, but also take control of its management,” Tyagi said.
