India to go Pak way,to have slider gate at Attari border

Following the footsteps of Pakistan Rangers, the Border Security Force is set to install sliding gates at the Attari border where the ‘beating retreat’ ceremony takes place every day.

Following the footsteps of Pakistan Rangers, the Border Security Force is set to install sliding gates at the Attari border where the ‘beating retreat’ ceremony takes place every day.

The ceremony starts with a blustering parade by the soldiers from both the sides and ends up in a coordinated lowering of the flags of the two nations. The ceremony attracts visitors from both sides of the border as well as international tourists.

“While Pakistan has already installed sliding gates,we have conventional gates. In the highly charged up ceremony,BSF personnel open and close the gates with massive force. Due to this,we have to get the gates repaired almost every fortnight as the hinges become weak,” BSF (Punjab Frontier) IG Aditya Mishra said on Thursday.

He added: “So,we have now decided to have slider gates at Attari. The pillars of both sides of the gate will also be widened to bring them at par with the Pakistani side. The slider gates will come handy for BSF personnel. As compared to conventional gates, they would have to use lesser force to open and close the gates.”

Moreover, for ensuring that BSF personnel do not end up straining their legs,BSF will also install wooden planks at the spots where jawans do high rise stomping during the ceremony.

The wooden planks are to be coated with a rubber paint and BSF believes that while it will keep the conventional stomping sound intact,it will also act as a cushion for the legs of the jawans. “Work of laying of the wooden planks will be completed soon,” said Mishra.
