Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s trip to United States is coming during Navratri — the nine days of worship of Goddess Durga — which he celebrates religiously. Modi is learnt to be carrying an electronic version of Durga Saptashati, downloaded from the website of Geeta Press, a prominent publisher of spiritual books, on his iPad so that he does not miss out on reciting the sacred text everyday, as is the ritual.
LANGUAGE LINK
Just days ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s speech at the United Nations, the UNIC (United Nations Information Service) in New Delhi has launched the Hindi version of its website. The UNIC says this is a form of ‘UN-India connect’. The Prime Minister will be speaking at the UN General Assembly in Hindi and the address can now be caught live on the UNIC website, also in Hindi.
MISSED CALL
A change in government often leads to change in loyalties. A former UPA minister recently got a taste of this when he called a high-flying babu in the Information & Broadcasting Ministry on his cellphone. The call went unanswered and the former minister kept waiting for the official to revert but that did not happen for days. The furious politician has been heard telling people in government circles about the “true colours” of the official, who, he says never missed an opportunity to please him when he was in office.
MISSION MARS
The Vishwa Hindu Parishad organised a puja for the success of India’s Mars orbiter Mangalyaan, at an Arya Samaj temple on Sunday. The spacecraft is to enter into the planet’s orbit on Wednesday morning. VHP leader Vinod Bansal said it would prove that “Bharat has regained its status of superpower of the world”.
