Head constable critical after being shot by ASI

Khokar was shot at allegedly by ASI Ramnath Upadhyay (59),who is absconding.

A head constable was critically injured here this morning when his neighbour,an assistant sub-inspector,opened fire at him following an argument over dumping of garbage in front of the victim’s house.

The incident took place in Welcome area in north-east Delhi at around 8:30 AM and the victim has been identified as Satender Khokar (27),who is posted with 3rd Battalion of Delhi Armed Police.

Khokar was shot at allegedly by ASI Ramnath Upadhyay (59),who is absconding. The ASI was attached with Adarsh Nagar police station.

The two are neighbours and got into an argument over the issue of dumping of garbage.

“When Khokar came out of his house to go to work,he found garbage outside his house. Upadhyay who stays nearby started abusing the head constable. A heated argument followed. The ASI then snatched the service revolver of the victim and fired at him,” a senior police official said.

The victim’s house was adjacent to the house of Upadhyay’s relative. Khokar had earlier asked the relative not to throw garbage infront of his house.

Khokar was injured on his chest and stomach,the official said,adding that the head constable was rushed to hospital. Doctors said he is in a critical condition.

A case has been registered against the ASI.

Khikar lived with his wife Meenu (25) and two children,Tanmay (5) and Tanisk (1).
