The Uttar Pradesh government on Friday announced that it has sanctioned Rs 2.24 crore additional ex-gratia financial assistance to the people affected in the 1987 Hashimpura massacre.

The government has sanctioned the amount for the kin of those affected in the PAC firing, a Home department spokesperson said. Rs 1.90 crore has been sanctioned for the kin of 38 “killed or missing” persons. And Rs 34.20 lakh will be given to seven persons, including kin of two killed, and five injured persons, the spokesperson said.

UP has also decided to challenge the Hashimpura case verdict in the Delhi HC, two months after a sessions court acquitted 16 former PAC personnel.
