Fresh case lodged in Chandrasekharan murder

Rama has been on an indefinite strike in front of the government secretariat demanding CBI probe into the conspiracy.

Amidst the demand for a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into the alleged high-level conspiracy behind the murder of CPM rebel leader T P Chandrasekharan, police on Tuesday registered a new case to probe into the conspiracy.

The case registered at a rural police station in Kozhikode district was based on the complaint of Chandrasekharan’s widow K K Rama that senior CPM leaders were involved in the conspiracy.

In the complaint given to Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala, Rama has not named anyone.

Instead, she said the murder was with the consent of the CPM state leadership. The police probe into the role of the party has not gone beyond P Mohanan, a district secretariat member in Kozhikode.

Police have, however, not named any CPM leader in the FIR. A special police team would be constituted for the conducting the investigations. The move is seen as a step to hand over the probe into the conspiracy to the CBI.

Meanwhile, Chandrasekharan’s mother Padmini told the media that CPM state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan was involved in the her son’s murder. Without Vijayan’s knowledge, such a murder would not take place, said Padmini.
