Four days after a woman accused her husband and in-laws
of forcibly getting her to abort her girl child,police finally registered a case on Wednesday. The victim,Nirmal Kaur,alleged that police were not acting on her complaint due to pressure from a Akali leader. Kaur,who had married Lakhwinder Singh in Faridkot about eight months ago,in a
written complaint to the Moga SSP alleged that her in-laws
and husband had forced her into an abortion after getting
a sex determination test done at a scanning centre. She further said that the abortion was done by Charanjit Kaur,a
nurse from Gill road in Moga. The victim and her family
members from Kotakapura had been pleading with policeto register a case from Sunday. It was only after the family
gheraoed a police station and the SSP office on Wednesday
that the police finally registered a case on Wednesday.
A SAD leader from Kotakapura reportedly told the
Moga police to not register a case against the owner of the
scan centre. SHO Jaswinder Singh confirmed that Nirmals
husband,father-in-law Pavinder Singh,mother-in-law Kulwinder Kaur,sister-in-law Golo,nurse Charanjit Kaur
and Kulwinder Singh from the scan centre have all been
booked.
