Farmer protesting Ujani water ‘mismanagement’ plans wedding of donkeys

The invite says male donkey Jhoothbole (liar),son of Congress party,will wed Jalchori (water theft),daughter of NCP. The card mentions NCP president Sharad Pawar,Union home minister Sushil Kumar Shinde,Chavan,Ajit Pawar as hosts and Laxman Dhoble and Sunil Tatkare as organisers.

“Congress is a liar because CM Prithviraj Chavan promised two months back that our villages will get water from Ujani but this never happened. When Ajit Pawar was the water resources minister,water meant for farmers was diverted to industries such as Dynamix,” said Deshmukh,leader of Solapur Janhit Shetkari Sanghatana.

“In rural Maharashtra,there is a tradition of donkey weddings as a last resort to pray to the rain goddess. Since the government is not doing anything for us,we are depending on donkeys now,” he said.

Deshmukh said bringing a pair of donkeys from Solapur in a tempo would cost him Rs 12,000. He has invited all top political leaders of the state to the wedding.
