Don’t wait for evidence, act against Tharoor,BJP tells PM

BJP said Prime Minister Manmohan Singh should not wait for evidence and take action against the union minister Shashi Tharoor.

Claiming that all aspects of “abuse of authority” by Shashi Tharoor in connection with the ownership of Kochi IPL franchise were in the public domain, the BJP today said Prime Minister Manmohan Singh should not wait for evidence and take action against the union minister.

The main opposition, which had yesterday demanded sacking of the Minister for State for External Affairs, was reacting to Singh’s statement in Washington that any action against Tharoor would be taken only after “checking all the facts”.

“Everything is now in the public domain. By abusing his ministerial position and authority,Tharoor ensured that his friend Sunanda Pushkar is richer by 70-75 crore without investing a single farthing,” BJP spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad said.

Tharoor is battling allegations that a woman romantically linked to him had received Rs 70-crore free equity in Kochi IPL team.

“The Prime Minister should not wait for any evidence against Tharoor for taking action if he is serious about fighting corruption,” Prasad said.

There were reports that Congress and the government were reluctant to defend Tharoor in the IPL case after initially coming to his defence. However,Singh said any action would be taken only after “checking all the facts”.
