The Left in Kerala has started to target Congress candidate Shashi Tharoor over the death of Sunanda Puskhar. Opposition leader V S Achuthanandan Wednesday questioned why no case was registered against Tharoor for the unnatural death of his wife, his remark following those by two other CPM leaders who went on to be slapped notices by poll authorities.
VS said Congress leaders, including A K Antony, should say why Tharoor was not booked. If the wife is found dead under mysterious circumstances within seven years of a marriage, a case should be registered against the husband, he said.
Before V S, CPM state committee member M Vijayakumar said at a function of Left candidates Tuesday, “Tharoor is specialised in certain subjects, which I don’t know about. But he would get a PhD in violence against women.”
Tharoor moved the Election Commission through the district collector, who is the returning officer. He also complained against CPI legislator V S Sunil Kumar who, in a discussion on Reporter TV, alleged that Tharoor had murdered Pushkar. Tharoor said the channel did not bother to edit out the remark. The district collector Wednesday issued notices to both CPM leaders.
