Corruption is affecting the fair image of the country in the eyes of ‘our own people’ and of the people of the world,Maharashtra Governor K Sankaranarayanan said on Monday.

The Governor made these observations in a message addressed to state government officers and employees for the Vigilance Awareness Week. He cautioned that unless tackled urgently, corruption could hamper the pace of India’s surging economy.

The Governor asked government organisations to introduce e-procurement and e-payment wherever possible to bring transparency in public procurement.

The Vigilance Awareness Week,an initiative against corruption,is being observed from October 29 to November 3. “One of the major obstacles in the path of our country’s progress and development is corruption,” the Governor said.
