Cop sacked for torturing 8-yr-old Dalit girl

A six-year-old Dalit girl was beaten up and scolded by police officials near Etawah for allegedly stealing Rs 280 from a woman.

A Station House Officer (SHO) was suspended while a sub-inspector (SI) in Etawah district was terminated from service on Tuesday for torturing an eight-year-old girl at the police station,for allegedly stealing Rs 280. Chandra Bhan Singh,SHO of Jaswant Nagar police station in Etawah was suspended while sub-inspector (S-I) Shyam Lal was terminated from service.

ADG (Law & Order) Brij Lal said,”Complainant Anju Kotharia had brought the girl to the police station on Monday evening after she suspected that the minor had stolen Rs 280 from her wallet in a market. A case of theft has been registered against the girl and an FIR for torturing the minor been lodged against the two erring policemen today.”

The Superintendent of Police (SP) Etawah,Kripa Shanker Singh said,”The minor girl has been sent back home and the allegation of theft against her was being investigated. She belongs to a poor family and her parents are labourers.”

“Sub-inspector Shyam Lal has been dismissed from services,as he allegedly had assaulted the girl and harassed her at the police station. SHO Chandra Bhan Singh has been suspended as the girl was tortured at his instance,” said the SP.

He also said that a case under sections 323 and 506 of the IPC and SC/ST Act has also been registered against the SHO and the S-I. Action would be initiated against the two after an investigation into the case,Singh said.
