In yet another blow to the Congress government and state vigilance bureau, the central government on Tuesday rejected their plea to grant prosecution sanction against senior IAS officer Kamlesh Pant, currently on central deputation.
Pant, who had served as Deputy Commissioner Kangra was named in the FIR filed by the vigilance bureau against HPCA president Anurag Thakur in a case relating to the demolition of a building belonging to state’s education department at the site of cricket stadium in Dharamshala.
The vigilance had claimed that the building was demolished at behast of the then Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal, who had passed instructions to Pant to comply his orders.
Beside half a dozen office bearers of HPCA, some retired and serving government officers were also made accused in the case by the vigilance.
Highly placed sources said that the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) has written to state Chief Secretary P Mitra conveying that prosecution sanction can’t be granted against Pant. The communication which reached Shimla was kept as a closely guarded secret, only to be confirmed on Tuesday by an official of state’s home department .
