CBI reviews working of blacklisted Moga rice mills

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI),Chandigarh reviewed the functioning of six rice mills in Moga as a part of the enquiry marked by Punjab and Haryana High Court to review the status of 271 mills that were blacklisted in 2008-09.

Most of the blacklisted mills are based in Barnala,Sangrur,Bathinda and Moga and the CBI will complete the enquiry in these district by March 17.

Paddy allotment to the 271 blacklisted mills was cancelled,but they again got paddy sanctioned by the district food supply departments under fictitious names. “The High Court took the notice of this and asked the CBI to enquire into the matter and submit a report on March 20,” sources said.

At least two of the firms reviewed by the CBI in Baghapurana —- Jaan Khan Rice Mill and Rolson Rice Mill —- were found to be working against the rules of blacklisting.

CBI Chandigarh chief,Mahesh Aggarwal,confirmed having received the list of 271 mills blacklisted in 2008-09. “Allocation to 50-60 mills were restored some time back. We are probing on what basis their allotment was revoked. We will also review stock and other details of all the 271 rice mills,” he said.
