The CBI is expected to receive a “comprehensive report” in 10 days from the medical board constituted to examine forensic and medical evidence gathered in connection with the death of two teenage cousins, whose bodies were found hanging from a tree in Budaun in May.

CBI officials said the significance of the medical board’s report was that it would throw light on the nature of the two girls’ death, vital to the ongoing probe. “Forensic test reports received earlier have ruled out rape in the case. The comprehensive report from the medical board will bring clarity on the nature of the deaths of the two victims. It will be made available to us in 10 days,” said a CBI source.

Forensic tests conducted at the Centre for DNA Fingerprinting and Diagnostics (CDFD) in Hyderabad had virtually ruled out sexual assault, following which the five accused in the case — three brothers and two constables — were released on bail. The CDFC had examined 38 exhibits for DNA samples. It did not find male DNA on the clothes or the bodies.
