BSP general secy joins BJP

Earlier in the day, former CM Kalyan Singh said he will formally join the BJP Sunday.

A day before Narendra Modi’s rally in Lucknow, Rajya Sabha member and BSP national general secretary S P Singh Baghel joined the BJP in the presence of the party’s state in-charge Amit Shah in Lucknow Saturday.

Baghel had won the Lok Sabha elections on a Samajwadi Party ticket in 1998, 1999 and 2004 from Jalesar. He sought a ticket from Firozabad after the seat was scrapped, but was denied one by the party. He later contested against UP CM Akhilesh Yadav from Firozabad as a BSP candidate.

“I want the development model of Gujarat to be implemented across the the country,” said Baghel, who plans to contest from Firozabad.

Lone LJP MLA who quit party joins JD(U)

PATNA: Lone LJP MLA (Araria) Zakir Hussain Khan, who quit the party over the LJP striking an alliance with the BJP, on Saturday joined the JD(U). Two LJP MLAs had joined JD(U) over two years ago. LJP, which had won three seats in the Bihar Assembly polls, now has no MLA. Khan, who wanted to contest from Araria Lok Sabha seat, fell out with the LJP after the party failed to ally with the RJD. Sources said Zakir was promised either the Araria seat or a ministerial position by JD(U).
